WASHINGTON MINT 4 OZ PROOF DOLLARS
 
I am new at this are the 4 oz proofs from the washington mint a good thing to buy? I think they are called art bars or something.

Personally, I would pass on the 4 oz proofs you mentioned unless you already have a good chunk of gold and silver and just want to buy them for fun or novelty purposes. They are expensive relative to the amount of silver you get and awkward to store. If you can get 'em for close to spot there is no harm in buying them. I'd buy 90% U.S. silver and recognized 1 ounce rounds and ten ounce bars first and foremost.

I can get them for $1.00 over spot and they are cool looking thanks for any advice.
